My beloved Wesley passed away on March 10th, 2023 at 10:35 a.m. Our grief is immeasurable. I wake up every day, and several times a day, wonder why, and just want my Wesley to walk through the door.
I don't know how to do life without him, but I do know that my children and grandchildren will be right by my side and help me navigate through my new journey of life without Wesley.
Wesley was officially diagnosed with metastatic prostrate cancer on July 22, 2021 (my mama's birthday is on July 22nd). The doctor was floored because he thought the cancer was contained to the prostate but it had already spread to several places along the spine.
Wesley went through hormone therapy, intravenous chemo therapy, chemo pill (Xtandi) and tried to get on a clinical trial at the Mayo Clinic but he was not approved.
Wesley fought hard for over a year and a half, and we all thought he had longer, but the cancer finally spread to his abdominal area, back, lungs. liver and lymph nodes. The cancer in the lymph nodes is what was his demise. His body just couldn't overcome all of the swelling in his legs, abdominal area and slowly his lungs filled up with fluid (he basically drowned in his own fluid and that really upsets me). It was not an easy and peaceful death. Wesley suffered intensely with not being able to breathe very well for about ten hours. It was such anguish watching him go through it all.
I miss my Wesley, my love, my life, my hero, my Mr. Fix It All. I always told him that he was so "corny." I'd take that now:)
Wesley had the most inspirational funeral. An FSU funeral. His casket was draped with an FSU flag that the FSU football team had signed. He wore FSU clothes. The minister, spoke on Wesley's Faith, Family and FSU! He had a wonderful message, but the highlight, was our son, Adam, giving the eulogy. It was the best ever! Adam made everybody laugh and cry.
You can watch the service at https://www.firstmoultrie.org/wesleysauls
When we got to the gravesite, as the pallbearers were taking Wesley's body from the hearse to the grave, they played the FSU warchant and we all did the chop. Afterwards, the minister said, "Well, that was a first for me." LOL!
Wesley was an icon in our lives.....children, grandchildren, family and friends. Everybody loved Wesley. I miss him so much! I love you, Darling!
